Robert M. Epsten, M.D.

Dr. Epsten, a second generation San Diego physician began private practice in solo practice in 1986. He’s a graduate of the University of Southern California where he majored in Biology. He obtained his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1980. Dr. Epsten completed his residency in Internal Medicine and became Board certified in 1983. He then completed a three year Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. Following the completion of his Fellowship he became board certified in the specialty of Gastroenterology and joined the staff of Mercy Hospital in 1986.

In 1992 Dr. Epsten joined the practice and became a partner the following year. He has served as the Director of Gastroenterology at Scripps Mercy Hospital for the past ten years. He is currently a member of the teaching staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego in the department of Gastroenterology. In addition he has served on numerous other committees within the Department of Gastroenterology. Currently he serves as the president of the San Diego Gastroenterology Associates.

Management of inflammatory bowel disease as well as liver disease are Dr. Epsten’s areas of expertise. Currently he is a member of the San Diego GI Society, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, as well as the American Gastroenterology Association.
